The Citizen Science Safari
A workshop to explore, discover and design your Citizen Science project
CITIZEN SCIENCE
Scientific work undertaken by members of the general public, often in collaboration with or under the direction of professional scientists and scientific institutions.
As part of our capacity-building portfolio, the ‘Citizen Science Safari’ workshop is designed to facilitate researchers, both early stage and advanced, in exploring, discovering, and designing their citizen science projects.
The exact structure and duration of the workshop is tailor-made to the needs of the participants, but is based on the following three pillars:
Setting off on the citizen science safari
We introduce the concept of citizen science and its benefits, provide examples of successful citizen science projects and discuss the various roles involved in a citizen science project.
Navigating the citizen science safari: design and evaluation
We define the target audience and strategies for engaging citizen scientists, discuss data quality control and legal framework considerations and evaluate the success of a citizen science project.
Creating your own citizen science expedition
Finally, we support the participating researchers in designing their own citizen science activity, based on their own research! We provide support in designing a citizen science project, from ideation to implementation and develop the community engagement plan.
