Premiere of “Rainmaking Rituals” at Rethinking Water Event, in Lisbon, Portugal, on December 2-3, 2021, organized by EIT Water Scarcity, an event that brings together experts, innovators, researchers, and policymakers to tackle pressing water issues in Europe.
We are excited to present a new story about rainmaking rituals, featuring images and stories from Sikinos and Anafi, with English subtitles. The animation, created by Panagiotis Rappas, highlights traditional Greek rituals aimed at invoking rain in regions affected by water scarcity. In Greek-Orthodox tradition, these rituals, known as “litanies,” involve the local priest and the community walking around fields in a ceremonial procession to ask for rain.
