Surrounded by snow and ice, this exceptional site offers insight into how scientists study air quality, atmospheric processes, and climate change. During the visit, you’ll learn how measurements taken at high altitude help us better understand environmental changes and connect them to questions explored in Pollen Watch.

Costs: The guided tour is free but participants are responsible for their own transportation costs. However, we will get a reduction for the trip Grindelwald – Jungfraujoch and back. The total cost from Zurich HB to Jungfraujoch and back is 149 CHF with a Half Fare Ticket and 64.60 CHF with a GA travelcard.
Registration is open to anyone, but priority will be given to people participating in more than one event and in the measurements of the Pollen Watch project. An overview of all events can be found on our project website.
About the High Altitude Research Station
Perched at over 3,500 meters above sea level, the High Altitude Research Station Jungfraujoch is one of Europe’s most important sites for climate and atmospheric research. What began nearly a century ago with studies in astronomy and radiation has evolved into a key hub for understanding environmental change.
Today, scientists here continuously monitor the composition of the atmosphere, measuring greenhouse gases like CO₂, aerosols, and radiation levels. Thanks to its unique location—far above most sources of pollution—the station provides exceptionally clean data, making it a vital reference point for tracking global climate change.
As part of international networks such as Global Atmosphere Watch, the station contributes to long-term datasets that help researchers understand how human activity is transforming the atmosphere. These measurements are especially significant in alpine regions, where the impacts of climate change—such as rising temperatures, melting glaciers, and shifting weather patterns—are particularly visible.
By combining decades of continuous observations with cutting-edge research, the Jungfraujoch station offers crucial insights into the changing climate and the future of our environment.
