EIT Food launches the 1st Student Journalism Award in Greece alongside the Journalism Awards

This year marks the launch of the EIT Food Journalism Awards in Greece – a new initiative that celebrates excellence in journalism dedicated to the future of food.
The Awards aim to recognise journalistic work that raises public awareness of the challenges and opportunities in the food system — from sustainability and healthy nutrition to innovation, entrepreneurship, and digitalisation.
Alongside the professional category, the 1st Student Journalism Award in Greece has been introduced, designed to engage and nurture the next generation of science and food communicators. Running in parallel with the professional competition, the Student Award was officially launched during the 13th Summer School of Environmental Journalism in Chania, Crete, hosted at the Regional Press Institute (RPI) and organised by Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
The Summer School provided rich inputs on pressing issues such as climate change, fake news, and environmental communication.
In addition, participants had the opportunity to visit agrifood businesses across Crete, exploring local practices in carob, honey, and wine production as well as agritourism initiatives, gaining first-hand insights into sustainable food systems.
This dual approach — professionals and students — reflects EIT Food’s commitment to building a strong ecosystem of journalists, researchers, and future voices who can shape the public debate on food and sustainability.
